Lefroy Valley NZ held their annual Salad Mix Field Day on Wednesday 9th April.
We had a very good grower turnout with all of New Zealands premium outdoor mesculin growers attending the field day.
Our range is growing and improving each year. As always we have a massive focus on standard mesculin products including a broad range of Chinese Greens, Chards as well as Kale which is presently a global trend. In addition we showcased two rocket types, Diplotaxis and Eruca sativa as well as pak choi’s and mustards.
We are a distributor for Pop Vriend spinach and here we had the full range on display. Standouts for winter production were PV 1372, PV 1374 and Bongo.
However in terms of break throughs for Lefroy Valley, we had a huge range of lettuces suited for both outdoor salad mix and hydroponic production. This included, lollo bionda’s, green oaks, red oaks, lollo rossa’s, batavia’s, butterheads and a range of specialist outdoor lettuce. Last but by no means least Little Gem Cos.
The exciting prospect for lettuce growers is the sheer range, providing every sort of leaf shape, colour and texture. For the Hydroponic growers, the number of varieties which have the full range of Bremia resistance in addition to Nasanovia 0 resistance is a tantalising prospect.
